There's a reason my wife, a native New Englander, considers southwestern Connecticut part of the Greater New Jerk Area (that's New York-New Jersey-Connecticut), and here's further proof that those NYC suburbanites who live in Connecticut are not part of New England: According to a Quinnipiac University poll, Connecticut baseball fans prefer the Hated Yankees to the Beloved BoSox 43%-33%. Mets fans made up 9% of the state. (Via Daily Kos)
Okay, maybe I'm being a bit harsh: A little googling finds that the since the same poll was done last year, Yankees fandom seems to be slipping in Connecticut. In 2003 (according to a 2003 Norwich Bulletin article), it was 47%-33% percent Yankees vs. Red Sox. The question is what happened to that other 4%? Did the designated hitter rule spur them to join the Mets bandwagon?
